  • A national society for pediatric ophthalmology, strabismus, ophthalmic genetics, or a combination of these
  • A supra-national society representing more than one country for the same purposes, or an orthoptic association

The honorary president is Prof. Adriano Magli and the Scientific Coordinator is Dr. Caterina Gagliano. SMO main goals are: promoting and advancing the discipline of orthoptics, low vision and applied diagnostic ophthalmological technologies, organizing conferences, professional courses and meetings with the aim to maximize multi-disciplinary interaction and to enhance researchers communication on orthoptics topics in the mediterranean area.

An annual lecture series the 'Prof Marilyn Miller lecture' was also inaugurated in 2012 honour of our patron. We meet twice a year.
