Paediatric Ophthalmologist

Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania (CCBRT) is a locally registered NGO first established in 1994. It is the largest indigenous provider of disability and rehabilitation services in the country. CCBRT aims to empower people with disabilities and their families, improve their quality of life, and ensure access to medical and rehabilitative treatment. Committed to preventing disabilities wherever possible, CCBRT is also engaged in extensive maternal and newborn healthcare (MNHC) activities and is currently constructing a Maternity and Newborn Hospital which will serve as a referral centre for high risk and emergency deliveries in the region of Dar es Salaam and the Eastern Zone of Tanzania.

We are looking for a passionate Paediatric Ophthalmologist to support our clinics as well as develop and initiate training of fellows in paediatric ophthalmology.

 

Responsibilities:

Assess, examine and diagnose paediatric patients
Manage ophthalmic conditions, including sound judgments re complex ophthalmic conditions, taking into account both medical and psychological aspects of patient care
Carry out ophthalmic surgical procedures
Show leadership and practise good management to members of the ophthalmology team
Develop training curricula in paediatric ophthalmology and advise on improvements of the department’s CME programme
Actively teach, train and develop ophthalmic fellows, junior doctors and other healthcare professionals
Participate in and contribute to research
Contribute to departmental and organisational strategy discussions
Manage department resources, ensure best practice development and instill performance excellence
Encourage team building and pursue effective cross departmental communication
Liaise with relevant external parties, national and international institutions
Perform any other duties related to the work as assigned a superior

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Master Degree in Medicine with specialization in paediatric ophthalmology from a recognized international institution and a sub specialization in paediatric ophthalmology
At minimum of 3 years experience in paediatric ophthalmology
Preferable experience in sub-Sahara Africa
Registered with respective medical Council
Preferably research experience and publication of various research papers in the past three years
English mandatory – Swahili preferable
